Primary Threats
- Overfishing (increasing fisherfolk competing for a limited fishery resource), illegal fishing (e.g. cyanide fishing, encroachment in municipal waters), marine pollution, siltation
- Lax enforcement of coastal policies by volunteer groups such as Bantay Dagat (Sea Watch) due to limited pertinent know-how on coastal law enforcement and lack of floating assets or paraphernalia to carry out functions devolved to them
- Increase in tourism activities, which have affected water quality in the area; another concern is the grounding of ships
- Increasing volume of solid waste materials brought by tidal
- Siltation due to mining activities in the adjacent municipality has affected quality of coral habitat; mine tailings has made the coastal waters murky thereby smothering the corals
- Over-harvesting of lumber.
