The ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) welcomed a delegation of 28 representatives from the Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI), led by Executive Director Karen Agabin, for a comprehensive briefing on ACB’s programs and projects.. The visit, held on 26 November 2024, highlighted both organisations’ shared commitment to conserving marine biodiversity and fostering sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities.
The ACB team provided an engaging introduction to the Centre’s mission of protecting the ASEAN region’s rich biodiversity. They highlighted the Centre’s strategic goals, which focus on regional collaboration and community engagement in conservation initiatives. A central part of the discussion was the ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHPs) program, emphasising the significance of these parks in safeguarding biodiversity, providing essential ecosystem services, and preserving cultural heritage. This provided an opportunity to explore potential partnerships in protecting key marine and terrestrial sites across the region.

The ASEAN ENMAPS Project team also presented its goals of strengthening marine ecosystem resilience through marine protected area networks. They shared insights on initiatives that promote sustainable livelihoods and capacity-building for coastal communities, aligning closely with MFI’s expertise and interests. MFI’s delegation showcased samples of community-based livelihood products they support, setting the stage for knowledge-sharing opportunities and discussions on scaling up sustainable livelihood programs in marine conservation areas.
The visit also included a guided tour of ACB’s Learning Resource Centre, where the MFI team explored educational resources on biodiversity and conservation efforts in Southeast Asia. This interactive experience enriched the dialogue on how both organizations can collaborate to amplify community engagement and awareness.
